A good place for us to start is to ask, "Why do we entertain ourselves?" One reason is that entertainment changes the channel on our brains. For instance, when you go to a movie or listen to music, when you engage in an activity that you deeply enjoy, you find yourself detached from the rest of the world. Often we entertain ourselves to put ourselves mentally somewhere else, in a place where the concerns of the moment don’t exist.

How does entertainment do this?
How can we develop applications that, like entertainment, help people shift their thoughts from one realm to another, applications that offer users a chance to enjoyably immerse themselves in the moment?next
