This section is from a talk I presented at
The Machines That Learn Conference. There I argued that If you want your interface to be as emotionally neutral as possible, you should avoid using faces in the interface. I worked with Byron and Cliff on Microsoft BOB so we oughta know.

Unfortunately, while Affect is easy to achieve, it is quite difficult to control. As arousal increases, emotions swing quickly from positive to negative or vice versa.
